Salmon
- 4 salmon fillets, about 6 ounces (170g) each
Marinade
- 1/3 cup (80ml) reduced sodium soy sauce (or regular soy sauce)
- 1/3 cup (113g) honey
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) sesame oil (or olive oil)
- 3 garlic cloves, minced (or 2 teaspoons jarred/minced garlic)
- 1 teaspoon peeled minced fresh ginger
Optional Garnish
- Chopped green onion
- Sesame seeds
Instructions
- Marinate the salmon: Place the salmon fillets into a large zippered food storage bag or shallow dish. In a separate bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey, sesame oil, minced garlic, and fresh ginger. Pour about half of the marinade over the salmon, ensuring each fillet is evenly coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes to allow the flavors to penetrate.
- Preheat oven: Set your oven to 375°F (191°C) and prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper, a silicone baking mat, or foil for easy cleanup.
- Bake salmon: Arrange the marinated salmon fillets on the prepared baking sheet, skin-side down. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the salmon is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
- Prepare glaze: While the salmon bakes, pour the remaining marinade into a small saucepan and bring it to a simmer. Let it cook gently until the mixture thickens into a glaze consistency, stirring occasionally to prevent burning.
- Glaze and serve: Once the salmon is done baking, remove it from the oven and drizzle the thickened glaze over each fillet. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds if desired. Serve immediately with your favorite sides.
Notes
- Make Ahead Instructions: Marinate the salmon up to 4 hours in advance, and for best flavor, marinade time can be extended up to 8 hours.
- Special Tools: Utilize glass containers for marinating, a glass mixing bowl and whisk for the marinade, baking sheet lined with silicone mats, parchment paper or foil, an instant-read thermometer to check doneness, and a small saucepan for the glaze.
- Sides: This salmon pairs beautifully with steamed broccoli and rice, both of which can be drizzled with the remaining glaze for added flavor.
- Frozen Salmon: Ensure frozen salmon is completely thawed before marinating to allow proper flavor absorption and even cooking.
- Chicken Substitute: For a protein variation, use chicken breasts by marinating for 1 hour and increasing bake time accordingly until fully cooked.
